Have they all got a total dis-regard for other road users, the highway code and pedestrians? Why do I ask? On my way home today, I was driving up towards Hornsey but had to make a left turn, there is a pedestrian crossing just as you turn left, a pedestrian was crossing so I had to stop. An idiot in a 4X4 decided to cut across into the same road as me but had to brake sharply cos I was stopped waiting for the pedestrian to cross the crossing, he didn't see the motorcyclist until he got out of his car to examine the bang? I drive a little Fiesta which is ideal in London, why in hells name do people drive these HUGE 4x4's in London where they are cleary a menace and most of their drivers have a total disregard for others? (Tomorrow, the 4x4 school run perhaps)

I used to get loads of flak for driving a 4x4 even though it did actually do a job, ie haul hay and water to my horses across muddy fields and pull a horse trailer, but I hated the damn thing, expensive to run, inconvienient in town, etc etc so when I see them being driven as a fashion accessory it does make me wonder why

Yeah, the prices are shocking, lots of coachbuilders on line that work to your specifications if you provide the van tho, much cheaper option in the long run and you actually get what you want.

I see you are all concerned about the motorcyclist this prat cut across? As you know, we live in London and the number of 4x4's just used for the school run and shopping "outings" (another rant to come!) at tescos is beyond belief! Even when we had Becky here we got still fit all the shopping into the fiesta and the amount of food she can consume! We had to get a bigger car for the dogs so we went for an estate, a bit longer than your usual hatchback but less height than a 4x4 allowing others better visibility when parked up.

Know exactly what you mean! People with 4x4's or other bigger cars never know how to drive them anyway. Its amazing to watch them try to move past... say parked cars, the gap can be big enough for a HGV but no is not big enough for them!!! Not long ago I had a small confrontation with a 4x4 driver. I was travelling along a road near to where I live, parked cars were on the opposite side of the road, so my right of way as my side was clear, got part way through and a 4x4 came zooming head on, on my side of the road. Even though he could see I was already there! So I just stopped and wouldn't move over, he stopped luckily before he hit me. Then tried the hand on the horn. By this time afew more cars were behind me so what do you know....he had to reverse back into a space between the parked cars, where he could of gone in the first place! Oh and yes, the 4x4 driver on the school run...you may be safe if your in the 4x4 being higher up in vehicle impact, but what if a child is hit by a 4x4, definate head injury with the higher front! I'll get shot for saying this but its normally volvo drivers who have problems with morocycles. Having several experiences being on the back of a motorcycle and volvo car drivers being the cause of near collisions, etc. due to the volvo driver in their air bag bubble. _________________

I bought a 4x4 out of necessity when I got my first Ute. I found in a normal height car he had to crouch and as we were doing a lot of miles with him in the car it didn't seem fair. We do have an estate Vectra at the moment, both dogs get in ok but again it's a squash in height for the big one so I'm about to take delivery of a van - nice high back, plenty of room but not much bigger than a car. Sliding side door too so be great for getting the scooter in I'd rate BMW drivers up there with the Volvo ones.
