    Post by mympr02 Thu Mar 03, 2011 8:13 am

Help please how much do we feed Seff 3 months ago he was 35kg we are feeding him 500g each feeding he is fed twice a day .
Of a mixture of chicken leg,pet mince , liver ,kidney .
We also give him a fish and the occasional egg with egg shell.
Are we feeding him enough as he still seems hungry and we are not sure with him blowing his coat he seems thinner .
    Any help would be great.
As michael has looked and looked in many places as this is what they say Seff should be on for his eventual adult weight .
    Love bea xxxxxxxxxxx

As Seff is still growing he will need more now than when he reaches full size in about 18 months or so, then you will find you have the opposite problem!!!!
I have always gone by the poo's and how they are looking. If his poos are very tiny and hard then he needs more food, if they are crumbly and white you are feeding too much bone, if they are runny then he needs less food.
An apt description of how a dog should ideally look is one I read on Britbarf some time ago
'like a skeleton with a blanket draped over it' my 2 look like they have 20tog duvets over them!!!!
You will find that sometimes he looks skinnier than others, that is because he is having a growing spell, although when I had Blaidd with me I was worried about him because he looked so skinny and never seemed to eat a lot, I was at the vets with him once and weighed him - he was 34kg so I stopped worrying!!!!!
If you get your food from Landywoods try him on lamb as that is more fatty and will keep the weight on him more, breast of lamb is good as well. Just keep an eye on his poo, if it is soft and runny then he is getting too much.

Was talking to Byron who has Blaidd the other night and he says Blaidd's head is up to his hips, and Byron is not a small guy..... Shocked Shocked
Was thinking, work on the other rule of thumb, when a youngster you can work on 5% of current bodyweight.

If Seff was to grow for another 18mths or so he will be nearly 3, hence me saying ho would be the size of a small pony.... lol!

They seem to stop growing in height and then fill out, sometimes they have a growth spurt and look skinny, stop growing and put on some weight and then grow again, but he is nearly at the stage when he will not grow any taller, but the boys seem to mature around 2-3 years old so keep looking skinny for a good while

His poos are not runny nor are they too hard .
They are brown in colour and are not crumbling .
So does this mean he is ok ?

Laughing Laughing they are absolutely bang on Bea Laughing Laughing so you are doing fine. Try giving him a bone to chew on and he will forget he is 'hungry' Please also remember that Mummy is the fastest eater ever, she inhales food and then looks around accusingly to see who ate hers and if there is any more because she hasn't been fed for weeks if not months. I put her dish down, go over to Cariad and her's down, come back and Lona has finished and is looking round to see where it went, Cariad meanwhile is neatly arranging the pieces around her dish in the order she wishes to eat them Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Seff is just the same and the complete opposite to rocky .
Rocky is such a tidy eater he lifts his head up so he does not drop anything were as Seff he eats like its going out of fashion .
I have never seen a dog inhale there food before but now i have Laughing .

To hear the carry on from Lona when I am going out with their food, you would totally believe that I never fed them, and when I did it was never enough Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil
