Recently our boy, Tai, had to have emergency surgery in the vets following a terrible accident involving a stick piercing his stomach wall. Whilst the vet was digging around inside following the path that the stick had taken, down his ribs, round the houses and ending up in the fat around the stomach, she observed that his colon contained bone. Whilst on the phone to Mike during that night, she asked him "does Tai eat bones?" O Lord, thought Mike, here we go, I'm going to get the usual lecture about how bad bones are for dogs, and that his insides are clogged up with undigested bone etc. etc. Wearily he explained that Tai was on the BARF diet and every day had a raw meaty bone, and why was she asking. Surprisingly, she wasn't asking in order to criticise, just the opposite, she just said how refreshing it was to see someone feed their dog in such an obviously perfect way. She said there was some well-digested bone in the colon, ready to pass through into the bowel in the normal way, and that everything to do with his digestion was perfect. There was absolutely no sign of fecal waste being left behind anywhere, no inflammation caused by gluten or other sensitivity, no sign of any damage by bones, no scars, no wounds, no blockages, she said she had never seen such a spick and span digestive tract in any dog before.

Nikki, that is absolutely wonderful. I don't know if you go on Britbarf Forum, but the number of people on there who have had extremely negative experiences with vets regarding the way they feed is ridiculous, they all have to go through what Mike was expecting, would it be possible for me to crosspost your post onto the Britbarf Forum, I suspect there will be people printing it out in order to wave it at THEIR vets
What a marvellous recommendation that is to all BARF feeders and would be feeders who are being put off by all the negativity they are encountering from the so-called 'experts'

Yes of course, but could you just remove the name "Tai"? I used to go on Britbarf, but I just don't have time now sadly.
