No normally I would agree. I read back through a lot of comments but there were a lot of negative comments and people mentioning how 'sad,' stressed the animals looked.

ONE posting said that the wolves looked stressed ...

I plough my own furrough in life, I go and see for myself before commenting. I may well be wrong, I may find that SE is everything that Toshy says he is, and if that is the case, I will be the first to say " you were right ". But I dislike intensely this "death by media" ... ONE person says the animals looked stressed, and that makes is so.

Not sure this is terribly fair. They may well be stressed ... I personally do not like to see predatory animals such as wolves in small enclosures ... so I reserve judgement.

Normally I would agree but there were a lot of coments about the state of the animals..see below. I know a few people will complain about anything. But, based on what I have read, if it was a hotel, I certainly would not be booking it...

Animals (if you can spot them) in small enclosures.

.I thought that some or the animals were not treated very well. For example I, saw one visitor taking a meerkat for a walk on a lead it looked terrified.

I thought many of the animals were kept in small cages. Many of them looked rather bored/distressed.

The birds near to the toilets were in a small cage and looked very sad for themselves.

No staff, and those we did encounter were incredibly unenthused

Animals all look depressed and in small cages -

. The other animals, the few there are, looked in a poor state.

Sad place if you are an animal as there seems to be no enrichment at all for them. Several enclosures too small for the animals. Lions and wolves seemed stressed as they are constantly pacing their enclosures, very dirty parrot cages without foom for the birds to stretch their wings..

The penguins were so depressed. they were in a dark and dirty pool and obviously waiting to be fed as were all the animals. There was obviously no 'enrichment' as they call it. The lions were in a small cage and just pacing constantly. The meerkats were playing with rubbish

We found combe martin dinosaur park very upsetting, three beautiful lions spent their days pacing their small enclosure, wolves were fenced in small enclosures and were obviously tame which made it all the more sadder, racoons were in a very small enclosure trying to climb a wall to freedom, and the meercats just huddled together, one meercat was separated from the others and when I asked why we were told he had been handled by humans too much so the other meercats would attack him

alot of people thing when wolves pace there stresses this is a normall behaviour as when they smell you comeing they will fence guard to see if you are a threat and if you are they will start running up and down the fence, but the times ive been theyv been up at the fence noising so they could be stressed and bored

There is a difference between pacing, and fence guarding, as you will know Toshy - I am sure I don't need to teach you how to suck eggs! When fence guarding, they move at a faster lope, than stress pacing, which they tend to do in a more monotonous, more listless, head slightly lowered, way.

When you say "noising", do you mean sniffing through the wire, or making a noise, ie sounding off? I am not sure either of these behaviours would indicate stress - boredom, maybe. The down side of any wild animal being "caged" in an enclosure is that inevitably they are going to be bored at times ... to me, it is the acceptable face of justifying the "taming" of wild animals in this way in order to educate humans beings that far from being granny-eating, child-eating monsters, wolves are gentle creatures who are fearful of man, but can be taught to accept them ... as their descendants, dogs, have been.

I think the confusion comes from your spelling.

Noisey means making a noise, nosey means having a look.

    Really is not spelt reli

There means a place they're means 'they are'

Not looking to cause arguments, and yes, I am a bit of a grammar Nazi, but only because it causes this kind of confusion and as its my thread, I'm the boss Razz Laughing

That's fair enough, not having a dig at you personally, but as said I think that is where the confusion came from in this instance.

Many forums have a spellchecker in the options menu above the text window when you are posting, can't see one here so maybe that is something Admin could look into.

Well I can't add anything on because this forum comes as it is, thanks to the help of virtually everyone on this forum, it has been customisd a bit, but mainly it is as it came, I wish I was more computer literate then I could do all these added extras, because I am sure if I knew more there is loads of stuff that could be done or changed to meet everybody's requirements lol! study study

O right, I'm with you now ... sorry to hear about the dyslexia, my daughter has learning difficulties and was statemented and attended a specialist boarding school in Hampshire, so I fully understand how tortuous it must be for you to post on here, although no-one will think any the worse of you ... I have seen a LOT worse from people who have no excuse other than laziness!

I have to say though I am confused when you say you don't know what I am getting at ... I thought you said that you have been studying wolves since you were 13? You said:

" ...been studying them since i was 13, been working with wild wovles since i was 16, iv worked under various bioligists and conservationists. my recent has been the ukwct and the scottish deer centre, i havent been abroed as i mostly work with hand reared wolves although i do work with wild wolves aswell, i do help fund projects from bulgaria to russia and so foth swaping data and such things i hope one day soon to have my own cubs to be amasaders, although i will be traveling this year to bulgaria and the french alps. sometimes its not were you go its the wolves on your door you should watch as there behaviour never changes with a social wolf they just loose there fear you learn more about them in this way and i speicalise in the matreing rituals and rank changes during this time, and i get very involved in breeding programes hence whhy i know the bullshit shaun ellis has said and done. i have a major passion for wil and captive wolves and love educating people on them as i under stand my dog better, id love to answear quistions, again i dont want to offend but this is why i made a massive deal about shaun ellis as he isnt what alot of you think and i know youv met him but believe me hes got many faces and iv seen most of them and there not nice or charming, any of you on facebook should add me and youl see mmy wolves and my work"

Compared to your experience, I have not even scratched the surface in regard to wolf behaviour, and yet you say you don't understand what I am getting at?

You've got me confused now!! Laughing Laughing

    No worries!!

It is an old english saying to describe when someone tries to explain something to somebody who will already know what you are talking about a lot better than them, and therefore needs no teaching!

It was meant as a compliment to you ... because you have had far more experience with wolves and know more about them than me.

O good, because I wasn't ... on the odd occasion I have been really nasty on a forum, I am completely open and up front about it, and go all guns blazing!! This is a nice forum and we all play nicely on here, although we frequently have disagreements and even arguments, but it is always civil. Me and June (Admin) frequently argue, but the sun never goes down when we haven't kissed (not literally of course Shocked , she's FAR too old for me Laughing ).

Thanx for your compliments, but I have only really scratched the surface ... they are fascinating creatures, and I would truly like to help with the enclosure, but I just know that hubby would most likely divorce me ... it's all about money with him, and I'm the major bread winner, so it's a bit difficult, would be fun though!
